Dillo Dirt

Dillo Dirt is a very stable, very mature compost which has been produced and sold by the City of Austin Water Utility since 1989. In November 2018, the city entered into a contract with Synagro to compost all the biosolids produced at the Hornsby Bend Biosolids Management Plant. Under this new contract, Synagro manages all production and sales of Dillo Dirt on behalf of the city.

All yard trimmings collected curbside across the city as well as some of its treated sewage sludge are combined and composted to create Dillo Dirt.

The City will ceased sales of its remaining Dillo Dirt inventory on or about April 15, 2019. Effective May 1, 2019, Synagro began managing the sales of Dillo Dirt.

In addition, Synagro also produces its AllGro® compost the Hornsby Bend Biosolids Management Plant. AllGro is manufactured through the same processes as Dillo Dirt. Dillo Dirt and AllGro compost meet all Texas and EPA requirements for “unrestricted” use.
