Synagro Hagerstown

The Hagerstown pelletizer receives, dewaters, heat dries and pelletizes approximately 1M gallons of sewage sludge per month. Synagro produces on average 40 to 45 dry tons of Class A biosolids per week.

The facility successfully operated for nearly 30 years prior to being shut down on June 1, 2019 to start a complete overhaul of the pelletizer equipment. The City of Hagerstown contracted Synagro to manage the $10.5M project including demolishing all the pelletizing equipment, installing new equipment, a motor control center and programmable logic controls, and making necessary safety and compliance updates to equipment. Synagro successfully managed this project, performed the new pelletizer startup and resumed pelletized biosolids distribution to agricultural customers in September 2020.
