Dillo Dirt is a compost made by the City of Austin since 1989. Beginning on May 1, 2019 and under contract to the City, Synagro began composting of 100 percent of the biosolids produced at the City’s Hornsby Bend Biosolids Management Plant.

Eco-Gro™ alkaline-based fertilizer is a dewatered Class A/Exceptional Quality biosolids product consisting of high organic matter, nitrogen and numerous micronutrients blended with lime and woody material, resulting in a great fertilizer alternative and outstanding cost-effective yields.
Eco-Gro fertilizer is produced at our Watershed Resource Center treatment and blending facility in northern Anne Arundel County, Maryland. It is easily applied with traditional litter- or manure-type spreaders and can also be used in many buffered areas of permitted Class B biosolids sites. The addition of potassium to the blend produces Eco-Gro™ Plus alkaline-based fertilizer, a more balanced fertilizer with sufficient potassium for optimal crop yields.
Eco-Gro™ Plus alkaline-based fertilizer is produced by adding potassium for optimal crop yields to Eco-Gro™ alkaline-based fertilizer, a dewatered Class A/Exceptional Quality biosolids product consisting of high organic matter, nitrogen and numerous micronutrients blended with lime and woody material. Eco-Gro Plus alkaline-based fertilizer is produced at our Watershed Resource Center treatment and blending facility in northern Anne Arundel County, Maryland.
Synagro’s Granulite® fertilizer pellets reduce reliance on chemical fertilizers and restore native soils to their full productive potential. Granulite fertilizer is manufactured in California, Connecticut, Florida, Hawaii, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Virginia, and are available for purchase in those and surrounding states.
We provide lime and help you to skillfully use it to reach an optimal pH balance with efficiency and precision.
Synagro’s MICRO-LIME® features smaller particles that result in less breakdown time, allowing for a quicker rate of change in soil pH.
Synagro holds an active patent on our PHOS-FIX™ technology which incorporates agricultural gypsum into a blend of Class A biosolids. The application of gypsum in agricultural products has been gaining increasing interest due to the material’s superior benefits.
Adds Sulfur, an Essential Macronutrient
Sulfur is an essential macro-nutrient typically deficient in soils today. It is a component of enzymes that regulate photosynthesis and nitrogen fixation as well as strong root development. Sulfur is particularly important in legumes such as soybean and alfalfa, usually resulting in dramatic yield increases.
Since the passage of the Clean Air Act of 1970, emissions of sulfur dioxide from combustion of fossil fuels have been reduced. Prior to the act, “acid rain” deposited sulfur on croplands, largely eliminating sulfur deficiencies. However, with today’s cleaner air, farmers must now monitor and add sulfur as necessary. Typical crop removal rates of sulfur are 0.5 lbs./bu. to 2 lbs./bu. on corn and soybeans respectively.
Calcium Without pH Increase
PHOS-FIX fertilizer provides calcium without increasing pH. This is important for soils deficient in calcium, but which otherwise require no pH adjustment.
Improves Soil Texture and Water Infiltration
The organic matter and gypsum in PHOS-FIX fertilizer helps break up clay soils to enable better water infiltration for plant use.
Reduces Soluble Salts
PHOS-FIX fertilizer aids in the leaching of salts from the root zone and downward into the soil. This helps maintain the proper balance so water moves into the roots, not away from them.
Can Tie Up Soil phosphorus
PHOS-FIX fertilizer chemically binds soil phosphorus and negates, or reduces, its addition to soils.
Eliminates Soil Crusting
Eliminates soil crusting – the forming of a hard, impenetrable layer of clay on the soil’s surface which may affect seedling germination and reduces water infiltration and air exchange.
Organic Matter
In addition to gypsum, PHOS-FIX fertilizer also contains organic matter. Gypsum alone inherently bridges in typical agricultural spreaders making its application frustrating and time consuming, with uneven rates of application. The addition of organic matter not only adds inherent benefits, but also greatly enhances the spreading characteristics.
PHOS-FIX fertilizer is applied using standard drag chain spinner spreaders commonly used in routine agricultural production.
PHOS-FIX PLUS™ is Synagro’s patented PHOS-FIX™ fertilizer with the addition of potassium producing a balanced fertilizer. PHOS-FIX PLUS fertilizer supplies calcium, nitrogen, potassium, and sulfur, as well as other micronutrients while adding no phosphorus, or in some cases, even reducing background soil phosphorus levels.
Based on rate of application of available K2O, 60–80 lbs./acre are included in the blend, again eliminating one field pass. As in our other products, the blending process eliminates particle separation thereby ensuring even application.
Synagro’s topsoil is blended with a finely ground carbon source and sand, dried and screened at our Watershed Resource Center treatment and blending facility in northern Anne Arundel County, Maryland. A healthy soil suitable for growing plant life, topsoil is the outermost layer with the highest concentration of organic matter and beneficial microorganisms. It is made up of mineral particles, organic matter, water and air, and is the layer in which plants generally concentrate their roots to obtain vital nutrients. The finished topsoil product has a soil textural class of sandy loam, is rich in color and high in organic matter. It spreads easily and is also well suited as a component for topsoil manufacturing and/or potting mix preparations. All finished topsoil product is stored under roof.
Synagro’s TopPro™ compost-like soil amendment is an exceptional all-purpose soil conditioner. Blended with a finely ground carbon source, cured and screened at our Watershed Resource Center treatment and blending facility in northern Anne Arundel County, Maryland, it is a highly organic soil conditioner comparable to compost. It is ideally suited for use as a soil amendment, top dress for turf and ornamentals, as well as a component for topsoil manufacturing and/or potting mix preparations. TopPro soil amendment provides slow-release nutrients, adds organic matter, improves soil structure and increases water and nutrient retention capabilities.
