We originally incorporated May 9, 1986 as a Nevada corporation. Our original name was BMP Marketing, Inc. In October of 1994, the name was changed to "SYNAGRO Technologies, Inc." to reflect the diversity of the biosolids treatment services that the company provided.
In 1996, the company re-incorporated as a Delaware Corporation. 1996 also began the slow but steady growth of the company. We acquired Pima Gro Systems in California, followed by the 1997 acquisition of assets from the BFI Organics Division in the Mid-Atlantic region.
In 1998, our new management team focused on a growth strategy that included targeting some very strategic acquisitions. Between 1998 and 2000, Synagro acquired 16 companies, including its largest competitor, Bio Gro, from Waste Management Inc.
In August 2000, after the completion of the Bio Gro acquisition, Corporate Management initiated a successful integration program resulting in the establishment of two divisions, six regional offices, rail transportation operations, product marketing and thermal processing.
Our acquisition strategy not only provided incredible growth for the company, but also a windfall of extremely qualified employees including technical and regulatory experts. Having begun operations in a handful of states, we have become a nationwide organization with operations in around 40 states and with over 1000 employees.
Since inception, we have increased service capabilities, broadened our customer base, reduced back office costs, produced insurance and financial savings, created a prominent national identity and put in place quality personnel at all levels of the company.
